Our take on LinkedIn endorsements

Have you noticed new features and changes to your LinkedIn account lately? While some of these features help users increase their network, such as the new look and feel of company and profile pages or new mobile app capabilities, some changes – like the new endorsement feature - have been met with mixed reviews. We’ve been getting a lot of questions about how to use it, so we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to weigh in and share our experience.

Chances are you have noticed several endorsement alerts for your LinkedIn account, some of which have come from people you’ve never worked with or even met. Why on earth would you want to be endorsed by a stranger? Truth is, while we are still waiting to see the real value in this feature, we do not recommend endorsing folks you do not know. What we do find useful from this new feature is that you can endorse people in your network that you have done business with and hopefully gain their recognition in return. In any industry, recognition is welcomed as a gesture of support (or endorsement) that can lead to stronger relationships both professionally and personally. With that said, our advice is to endorse the folks you know and disregard endorsements that don’t add value to your personal network. As LinkedIn continues to evolve in this fast-paced social world, we will be monitoring the progress to see what’s in store next.
